Regardless of the examples provided by a slew of public figures recently, the correct thing to do when you screw up |= claiming you have a substance abuse problem and checking yourself into rehab.

The correct thing to do is to own up, take responsibility for your actions (i.e. not blame it on anything besides your own stupidity), apologize, and try to make amends/fix whatever you broke.

I know it's a novel concept, but, trust me, it works and is far less irritating to the rest of the world.
