giogio: (Gio in London)

Back from Paris, which was very yay, for about twelve hours. I dragged CGB (whom I'm going to have to rename Mr. Grumpypants this evening, I think) through select sections of the Louvre--well, mostly he sat down on a bench and read while I squeed through various sections--and the Musee d'Orsay. It would appear that even though we're compatible in very many different ways, museum-wise we're about as incompatible as it is possible to get. My modus operandus is to have pre-identified artworks I want to see, and then I go straight for them and gaze admiringly, ignoring pretty much everything else inbetween. Nic is an aimless wanderer. To make matters worse, he seems most taken with high romanticism and landscapes (I eventually tracked him down in front of a Delacroix), both of which I'm not terribly keen on. He wasn't interested in the Greek vase painting (philestine!) or the Olympia (*cries*), though we did find common ground with a shared admiration for Art Noveau furniture and the Rodin museum, thank god. Apart from museums, there was some shopping, some excellent food, and a lot of people-watching from the cafes in the Marais. The weather was fabulous, and I probably walked more than I have in weeks.

Anyways, we're leaving for Cyprus first thing in the morning tomorrow, so I should probably pack now.
