If you're wondering about the complete radio silence over the past week, I was cooking. We had our housewarming party last night, and since I was expecting to feed about twenty people, the Mediterranean gene caused me to cook for approximately seventy. It's a thing. If you grew up anywhere south of the alps, you only get two settings: dinner for one or dinner for a small army.
The theme was Greek food and wine, which went down very well especially with some of the new neighbors who'd never really had good Greek food (I haven't yet found any good Greek restaurants in Sacramento--not that I'm looking especially, since it's what I cook at home for the most part). Unfortunately, I was running on Greek time and a little behind on the cooking, which means that first
firejunkie was interrupted in his party prep (also known as drinking a few rum and cokes to get over the social anxiety) and put to work helping in the kitchen, and I was still frantically finishing the last couple of dishes when
redarius and
cutenyeboi arrived and were promptly put to work wrapping things up before the rest of the guests arrived as well.
Our buffet featured the following dishes:
Taramasalata
Tsatsiki
Baba Ghanoush
Baked Kefalotyri in tomato sauce
Cheese pies
Grilled vegetables
Roast lamb with garlic sauce
Lemon-olive chicken
Stuffed tomatoes
Stuffed wine leaves
Greek salad
Tabouli
Date and bacon parcels
Fresh figs with Ouzo creme
Galactoboureko rolls
Profiterole
We made people take doggie bags at the end of the evening, but even so, needless to say, we'll be eating leftovers for a week. And I'm really, really glad I got the bottom freezer refrigerator, because I never would have been able to get all those tupperware containers in my old fridge!
